Methane activation on ruthenium: the nature of the surface intermediates
نویسندگان
چکیده
The identification of surface intermediates is an important step in determining the mechanism of a reaction and in developing an in-depth understanding of a catalytic process. In this work the surface species formed during methane decomposition on idealized single-crystal Ru catalysts (using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, HREELS) are compared to the surface species identified on real Ru catalysts (using neutron vibrational spectroscopy, NVS). Kinetic studies of methane homologation on singlecrystal catalysts and on high surface area supported Ru catalysts have been carried out in parallel with the HREELS andNVS studies to relate rates of reaction with the concentration of particular surface intermediates.

Methane activation on Ni and Ru model catalysts
This article reviews research related to the activation of methane by Ni and Ru using model catalysts, highlighting the surface science work carried out using molecular beams methods and elevated pressure reaction studies. Emphasis is placed on connecting the model studies of surface science with the corresponding results obtained on the analogous ‘real world’ catalysts. These combined studies ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Cu Impurity on the CO-dissociation Mechanism on the Fe (100) Surface: A Full Potential DFT Study
In this study, the theoretical calculations of CO dissociation were carried out on Cu-Fe alloy surface by a full-potential method, which made more accurate results especially on the prediction of adsorption energies. This process may be governed by either a direct route or a H-assisted via HCO and COH intermediates pathways. In comparison to the pure surface Fe (100), the presence of Cu atom en...

In this study fullerene functionalized using oleum (H2SO4·SO3), followed by the hydrolysis of the intermediate cyclosulfated fullerene as well as an oxidizing agent was employed to functionalize the fullerenes. Ruthenium was then added by the impregnation method or deposited on the functionalized fullerene. Subsequent to this step, Response Surface Methodol...

Conversion of methane into higher hydrocarbons is a process of enormous technological importance, which would benefit from a better understanding of the nature of the surface intermediates formed during methane activation. Currently methane is converted into hydrocarbons mainly by an indirect route[1, 2] via syn gas[3] as the intermediate. Alternative routes, such as oxidative coupling of metha...

Treatment of the pentamethylcyclopentadienylruthenium chloride tetramer [Cp*RuCl]4 with bis(dimethylphosphino)methane (dmpm) in tetrahydrofuran affords three ruthenium(II) phosphine complexes, Cp*Ru(dmpm)Cl, [Cp*Ru(dmpm)(η1-dmpm)]Cl, and Cp*2Ru2(μ-dmpm)2Cl2. Similar treatment of [Cp*RuCl]4 with bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) in tetrahydrofuran or diethyl ether affords the dinuclear specie...
